Before Thailand - Chicago
Our latest adventure has gotten off to a whirlwind of a start, and I’m just now getting around to posting on what’s transpired over the last couple of days.
We had booked our trip to Thailand many months ago, on a great deal from Thrifty Traveler. Airfare was round trip between Chicago and Chiang Mai, with the outbound flight leaving at 12:30am on a Monday morning. Not wanting to waste a good weekend, we left for Chicago on Saturday morning, and enjoyed a couple wonderful days in the windy city before jumping the pond for Thailand.
Unfortunately, we didn’t pay great attention to detail when booking our Minneapolis to Chicago flights, and found ourselves arriving at Midway airport, while both our hotel and departing Thailand flight being at O’hare … whoops! So our first couple hours were spending in an Uber heading from one airport to the other.
Once we reached the hotel and deposited our bags in the room, we headed into town. First stop … Burgers! On our last trip to Chicago we had indulged in the famous Au Cheval burger, and wanted to try their smaller sibling joint, Small Cheval. Did not disappoint.
After downing our burgers, fries and a couple of Old Fashioneds, we bounced around the city a bit before making our way to the Museum of Contemporary Art (MCA) to get our culture on.
Our last stop of the day was hitting up Eataly to enjoy their new Baita melted cheese joint. We wandered around the store for a while, before find a spot at the bar to devour said melted cheeses and a few cocktails.
Day two saw us headed to the Logan Square neighborhood for brunch at Longman & Eagle. We met up with some local friends who gave us a great tour of the neighborhood, where we stopped for drinks at a few places before grabbing dinner Daisies.
We grabbed one last drink, and a few photos in the photo booth, at The Owl before heading to the airport to catch our flight.
Two wonderfully mellow days to kick off the start of our trip to Thailand.
